  1. First, you’ll need to know which operating system your computer runs and is it compatible with GIMP? If you have an older operating system, no problem. You can easily get a free software update.
  2. Next, you’ll need download the correct version of GIMP for your operating system
  3. Finally, run the installer and answer a few questions.

Note: The instructions for installing GIMP will vary depending on your computer and operating system. Are you using Windows, or are you using a Mac?

How to Install GIMP For Windows:

  • First, make sure your computer meets GIMP’s Requirements.
  • Your computer will need to have Windows XP or newer to run the latest GIMP software.
  • If you use Windows but are not sure which operating system you use (Windows 7, Windows XP, etc…) click here to find out and install the latest version: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/upgrade-your-browser
  • Now, click here to Download GIMP >
  • When the download is complete, click on the icon to open the package, and run the installer.
  • Follow the instructions as they appear.
  • And viola! You’ve installed GIMP!

How to Install GIMP For Mac:

  • First, make sure your computer meets GIMP’s Requirements.
  • Your computer will need to have Mac OS X, either 10.4.11 (Tiger), 10.5 (Leopard), 10.6 (Snow Leopard), 10.7 (Lion) or 10.8 (Mountain Lion).
  • Not sure which version of Mac OS you’re using? Select “About This Mac” from the Apple menu (the Apple icon in the top left), and a window will pop-up containing your computers information. If the number displayed is 10.2.x, you’re running Jaguar, if it’s 10.3.x, you’re running Panther, if it’s 10.4.x, you’re running Tiger, and if it’s 10.5.x you’re running Leopard.   • If you have Tiger, you’ll need your original OS instillation disk so you can install an extra utility called X11. If you’ve got Leopard, you don’t need to install X11 because it comes pre-installed on your computer. If you’ve got Mountain Lion, Lion, or Snow Leopard, you are ready to install GIMP.

  • When the download is complete, click on the icon to open the package, and run the installer.
